Agios Nikitas & Milos

Right before you reach Kathisma, you will pass through the picturesque fishing village of Agios Nikitas. Walking down the cobbled street, you will find a small bay encircled by white rocks where you can enjoy a swim in calm waters.

Afterwards, have a bite or a drink in any of the many traditional restaurants and cafes. From there, a boat can take you to the secluded and much larger beach of Milos that is right next to the village over the hills. If you are active, however, you can opt for hiking to Milos; just make sure you are wearing sturdy shoes.

The Forgotten Islands

Kalamos & Kastos

Kalamos is not a conventional island. It is a tall mountain range which floats on the sea, its northern side overgrowing with towering, thick pine trees. Kalamos has a surface area of around 20 square kilometres and a highest mountain peak of 200 metres.

There are around 580 permanent residents, increasing in the summer when friends and relatives visit the island. The centre of the island is the port of Kalamos, which is on the eastern side. This is where many people sailing the Ionian moor their boats in order to visit the island and enjoy some seafood. Kalamos has small, mostly pebble beaches with wonderful clear waters, accessible mainly from the sea.

Just a few kilometres southeast of Meganissi, Kastos is the ultimate Ionian Island hideaway, blessed with lovely beaches, peace and quiet, and a deliciously simple way of life. Measuring just 8km from north to south, and less than 1km from east to west, Kastos is a little gem of a place, inhabited by around 50 permanent residents only. This diminutive size, allied to its unspoilt beauty, makes it the ideal destination for anyone looking for a holiday away from it all.

The sea that laps Kastos’s shores is wonderfully limpid and clean, an irresistible lure for swimmers, snorkellers, scuba divers and sailors. While the west is largely characterised by a rocky, element-sculpted coastline, the east is home to a series of small sandy-pebbly beaches and paradisiacal bays with transparent, electric blue waters.

Meganisi Island

Just a short hop across the water from its bigger sister, Lefkada, Meganissi is a wonderfully unspoilt island that has a gentle, relaxing pace of life and relatively few tourists.

It covers just 20 square kilometres and is formed much like a flower, with a long stalk to the south and a clutch of petals, forming myriad bays and coves, to the north. Notwithstanding its diminutive size, the island has plenty to offer, with lots of pebbly beaches to bask on, sleepy white-washed villages, such as Katomeri or Spartochori, to wander around and lots of good walking paths in the centre of the island.

The two main harbours of Vathi and Spilia are great spots for dining in seafront tavernas.

Vathi : This tiny, picturesque harbour village is located on the north east coast of Meganissi within a sheltered inlet. A low key, laid back atmosphere can be enjoyed here, and the village remains wonderfully traditional. Shops selling local crafts can be found throughout the little streets, whilst a few traditional waterfront tavernas are located along the harbour where you can relax with a meal and watch the fishing boats come and go. Vathi is also popular with visiting yachts .

Meganissi has plenty of beaches to choose from. Many occupy the little bays and coves that so characterise the coast of Meganissi and are a delight to explore by boat. Here are a few we particularly like:

SKORPIOS

Skorpios is the Greek island that hosted some of the most intriguing moments of the global elites during the 20th century. Uninhabited and unknown until the start of the 1960’s, Skorpios lays right next to the island of Lefkas, in the Ionian Sea.

Aristotle Onassis, the world-known shipping tycoon, bought the island in 1963 and started its overall transformation.

That’s why he planted more than 200 different varieties of trees, creating an idyllic scenery for his private moments. Onassis also built a family compound that included three luxurious residences, a helipad, and a small marina.

Skorpios hosted many parties during the time too, making it a central meeting place of global celebrities.

Maria Kallas ,  Jackie Kennedy , Winston Churchil was the some of who enjoyed the exotic beauties of this private Greek island.

Athina Onassis Roussel, the only child of Aristotle’s beloved daughter. But Athina showed no interest in keeping the island, so after many years, Skorpios was sold for more than €100 million to Ekaterina Rybolovleva, the daughter of the Russian super-rich businessman, Dmitry Rybolovlev.
